Why Does Infertility Health Insurance Cost So Much?
Each year more than six million American women discover that they are infertile and so it ensures that a huge mass of women need to have their infertility problem cured. Unfortunately, costs of treatment are too heavy to bear on your own and so it becomes necessary to look for and obtain infertility health insurance that however is often very costly and not all that easy to find. One alternative to high costing and difficult-to-find infertility health insurance is to become a surrogate mother or to go for adoption.
Low Success Rates
There are several reasons why infertility health insurance plans are difficult to find and so costly and among these reasons is the fact that success rates of treatment are on the low side while the costs of treatments are very high. This means that if you go for in-vitro fertilization treatment you don’t stand a very good chance of getting a successful outcome and this makes it hard to justify paying a high premium for your infertility health insurance plan.
Another problem is that insurance companies do not find sufficient numbers of takers for infertility health insurance coverage and so they are forced to charge high premiums. In any case, if you are going to take out an infertility health insurance plan then be sure to understand the coverage as well as exclusions and make up your mind only after you are convinced that the plan is worth buying.
There are a few states (fifteen, as a matter of fact) that mandate infertility health insurance and these states include California, Texas and New York and if you are resident in these states then be sure to check restrictions because each state has its own special considerations. At the same time, if you look around you will also find that certain insurance companies offer infertility health insurance plans as part of their benefit packages and this is really the kind of coverage that you need to go in for.
An infertility health insurance package that covers the costs of general testing and artificial insemination as well as in-vitro fertilization and even embryonic transfer is worth paying for. And, it pays to also look for insurance providers that offer refunds in case your treatment does not turn out to be successful.
One of the most important decisions that a couple having infertility issues can take is buying supplemental infertility insurance. Such form of insurance is worth every penny that you pay as it will certainly go a long way in helping to defray costs of costly infertility treatment.
